If you’ve decided to get your teeth professionally whitened, we’re going to make a safe guess that you want those results to last as long as possible. No one wants to feel like their money or time was wasted! While in-office whitening may not be a permanent procedure, there are certain things you can do to ensure your teeth stay bright and white for as long as possible.
The first couple of days after you get your teeth whitened, it’s important that you avoid foods that are known to leave stains and cause discoloration. For example, there’s tea, coffee, pasta sauce, and berries. We’re not saying you need to give up these foods and beverages forever, but we are saying to give yourself at least 48 hours before consuming them. When you do decide to eat them, we recommend rinsing your mouth afterward with water. You can also use a straw with staining drinks to limit contact on your teeth.
This one’s an easy one: Remember to keep up with your dental routine at home. The simple act of brushing and flossing every day will help prevent plaque from forming and discoloring your newly brightened teeth. You should also remember to visit the dentist’s office twice a year for a professional cleaning, which will keep your smile looking spic and span.
Tobacco, whether smoking or chewing products, isn’t good for your health, and they aren’t good for keeping your teeth white. Unless you want to deal with yellow or brown stains, it’s a good idea to quit tobacco as soon as possible. We know this isn’t an easy task, but you can do it and your body will thank you for it!
