Have you always wanted a straighter smile but are confused by the methods used to achieve it? Do you wonder which would be best suited to you and your lifestyle?

Here at Chesterfield Dentistry we completely understand how important it is to be happy with your smile and we recognize what a difference it can make to your confidence.

Once you’re certain orthodontic treatment is for you, the next step is to consider your options and the best way to achieve it. So let’s compare the four main ways that Invisalign aligner treatment differs from other braces.

Clear aligners

We know that many of our patients may be hesitant to have orthodontic work because they’re concerned about how it may affect their appearance. Often patients come to us for this treatment initially because they’re self-conscious of their smile and don’t want a noticeable mouth of metal adding to that. The good news is that Invisalign aligner treatment is designed to be invisible. The aligners are made from BPA-free clear plastic and are worn subtly over the teeth to create that perfect smile without anybody having to know about it! This factor is often the main reason patients choose Invisalign over conventional braces.

Removable Aligners

Unlike conventional fixed braces, Invisalign is removable. You will still need to wear your aligners for a maximum of 20-22 hours per day, but the advantage is that you remove them for eating and drinking. This is beneficial for two main reasons:

  • Better oral health
  • No special diet changes required

So you never have to worry about getting food trapped in your braces, struggling to brush and floss around metal wires and brackets, and you don’t have to sacrifice your favourite foods.

When wearing conventional braces, we often find that patients become less thorough with their dental cleaning routine, which in turn can lead to other problems, such as decay, staining, or gum disease. With Invisalign aligner treatment, this is one less thing to worry about as it is much easier to maintain good oral hygiene.

Comfort

The aligners are smooth and comfortable to wear. This is important because although orthodontic treatment with Invisalign is generally faster and will vary from one patient to another, the average treatment time is between 12-14 months. Traditional braces, because of the use of wires and brackets, can cause pain, discomfort, and mouth sores.

Virtual Treatment Plan

At ChesterfieldInvisalign Dentist Dr Melba Akinwande will show you your own personal virtual 3D treatment plan before you begin. This accurate imaging technology allows you to see the predicted movements and final desired position of your teeth before your treatment even begins! This helps you make the right decision and to be confident you’ll be happy with your teeth after using Invisalign. Conversely, with the use of conventional braces, there’s no definite way to predict the final position of your teeth after treatment.

It’s important to consult with us at Chesterfield Dentistry to determine if Invisalign best suits your situation.
