What happens during a routine cleaning and exam?
Your hygienist will carefully scrape away plaque that has built up in hard-to-reach areas, like around the gum line and in between the teeth. They will also expertly brush and floss your teeth using a special gritty toothpaste and expert flossing techniques to ensure that your teeth are squeaky clean. Afterward, Dr. Akinwande will ask you if you have any questions or concerns before examining your teeth, gums, dental restorations, and the inside of your mouth for signs of a variety of dental issues, like tooth decay, gum disease, dental trauma, and oral cancer.
What are the benefits of scheduling regular dental cleanings and exams?
It may be tempting to put off a routine visit or skip it altogether, but regular dental visits help our team diagnose and treat dental issues early before they develop into more serious problems. For example, if a cavity is caught early, it can be treated with a small filling. If it goes untreated for many months or years, however, a root canal could become necessary, which is more invasive, costly, and time-consuming.
