Dental crowns are minimally invasive dental restorations that can last for several years when they are treated well, and they can protect teeth from incurring further damage. Our dental crowns are very durable and natural-looking, and we customize each crown to blend in seamlessly with the rest of the patient's smile. Dental crowns offer many benefits for patients who choose to utilize them. Dental crowns are often used for:
Before your custom crown can be designed, created, and placed, the tooth must be reshaped so that the crown will fit over it without looking or feeling bulky. Local anesthetic will be used to numb the tooth and the surrounding area, the tooth will be carefully reshaped, and then impressions will be taken so that your crown can be created just for you. A temporary crown will be placed, and an appointment will be scheduled when your custom crown arrives from the lab so the temporary restoration can be removed and the permanent crown placed.
If you aren’t sure which restorative service is right for your smile, our team would be happy to examine your tooth and advise. Fillings only replace small portions of tooth decay, while dental crowns are often used when more decay or trauma has occurred and the tooth needs extra support and protection. Dental bridges require the abutment teeth, or the teeth on either side of the tooth, to be modified, whereas dental crowns only cover a single tooth at a time. None of these restorative options are better or worse than the others, they are just used for different reasons.
